Youth Changemaker
Sean Jackson
How are you a changemaker?
I am a changemaker because of my vision to inspire others to have their own visions for the future. Today, I am enrolled in a program called M.A.D which focuses on STEM curriculum to help set a foundation for myself to achieve my dreams in becoming an engineer one day. As a teenager, there are countless distractions that can pull a student's attention away from school, so I want to be an example to my peers by showing them the importance of preparing for their future careers since it is never too early to start. If you are having trouble meeting your goals because it does not align with the goals of those around you, find yourself some friends that share the same mindset as you. For me, that would be surrounding myself with people who want to go to college and are focused academically, so we can motivate each other as well as help each other throughout this long journey.
"What is ONE simple thing others can do to be changemakers?”
Don’t be a bystander. That is my number one suggestion for others to become a changemaker. I am a friend to many people that are struggling socially, such as victims of bullying. My cousin is an example of someone who was bullied, but I was able to instill confidence in him and teach him that bullying is not tolerable and needs to be stood up against. If you ever see something that should not be done, don’t hesitate to speak up because it can possibly save someone’s life.
